Android expected to win the smartphone race

Smartphones

Although analysts are still in disagreement over whether the Apple iPhone or the Windows Mobile phones will take second place for smartphones in terms of sales over the next year, they are confident in predicting that in first place will sit the Android operating system which has been skyrocketing exponentially every quarter in sales since it hit the market.

Despite the fact that most people would have never believed that Google could shake up the mobile market the way it has, it is now almost certain that Android will be leading the mobile market industry for the next several years with a clear gap in sales.

According to a forecast released by Ovum, Android will have conquered about 38% of the total smartphone shipments across the globe by the year 2016 with Apple’s OS and Windows Mobile trailing behind vying for second place with about 17% each of the market.  Trailing behind them only by a little more will be BlackBerry’s OS with about 16.5% of the market share.

Various operating systems by Nokia and other mobile manufacturers are expected to make up the remaining 10-11% of the market although Ovum believes that one more smartphone OS will be developed that will take on its own position as a top rival.
